Tools, like the Tarot, Astrology, Numerology, the I Ching, the Runes, are excellent ways to help tap into our psychic abilities. Each of these “tools” has its own energy. I choose the tool based on the type of question. But when reading for clients, I most often work with the tarot to be able to produce some depth and detail.

What is the Tarot

Says Danielle

For me, the Tarot is magic. It is much more than is a simple set of 78 pictorial cards. Once activated, these beautiful cards tell thousands of stories, answer any number of questions and provide insights on countless lives – and loves.

The Tarot consists of 22 Major Arcana which depict the major steps in one’s journey through life, and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits, Swords, Wands, Cups and Pentacles.

The Minor Arcana correspond to our modern day playing cards (and were probably derived from early playing cards, since it is believed that the Tarot formally came into existence as a card game.)

If the Major Arcana speaks to the archetypal characters, values and events or universal themes that play out as we journey through our lives, it is logical, then that the Minor Arcana speaks to the people, places and events that populate our daily lives. In a sense, the Major Arcana sets the stage for the the Minor Arcana which represents the characters, concerns, activities and emotions that make up the dramas of our everyday lives.

The Tarot is basically a divination tool that can be used to see the past, present and future and to give you insight on all aspects of life, from our dreams and relationships to past lives and worldly successes. I find the Tarot particularly useful in gaining insights around upcoming decisions and for obtaining background information around complex problems.

Still, the Tarot seems to contain and is capable of describing all of life’s infinite possibilities. Despite having used the Tarot in thousands of readings over some 40 years, I continue to be surprised at what it can tell me, and how it evolves with our circumstances. For example, who would think that a set of cards designed some 500 years ago could speak to a 21st Century reader about her client’s interest in body-building?

In reality, one experiences the Tarot as opposed to reading it. The Tarot is embedded with the universal symbols and archetypes that are contained in the Universal Consciousness. When the cards are open in front of you, they trigger immediate reactions within your psyche. Old soul memories, ancient knowledge rises to the surface of your being from the depths of your unconscious or subconscious self¦ the Tarot, like your dreams, is a way of talking with your soul, connecting with your higher self.

Notice and Trust, Reading the Tarot Demands That We Say What We See

To become a good reader, you must learn to notice, not only what attracts you in the cards, but what words and images fly through your mind, what you hear in your heart and feel in your body, what you sense in the air around you and then you must trust what comes up – you must say what you see and feel….

Years ago, at lunch with a friend, our conversation triggered me to tell a story of something that had happened to me some years earlier. I was barely into the story when my friend burst out with “how did you know? You always seem to know exactly the story to tell, how do you do it?” “know what?” I was puzzled, the story seemed to have come out of thin air. But, I had hit a button, a problem that she’d been struggling with… my story provided the very answers she’d been praying for. I didn’t realize it but my psychic self was in operation in that moment, and that was the beginning of a pattern that I soon learned to recognize and accept, especially when I’m reading the cards.

In a reading I will often be drawn to tell some odd story from my life or someone else’s, just because it comes to mind and invariably, it turns out that that particular story came to mind for a good reason in that specific moment.

The Tarot has taught me to trust what comes to mind in a reading, trust that whatever words come, they will have some value and may even contain some insight that can change a person’s life.

Dear Danielle, I have been meaning to send an email for sometime to thank you for your reading. I didn’t believe you at the time regarding your statement that you saw a happy marriage in my future…especially when you said you saw someone coming into my life causing me to move! But it was so true! Every bit… I met my husband Sean online when I was studying for a class in college, and after the first night we fell in love. We met on a game that is populated with so many people and choices of meeting areas that its the same probability of finding a needle in a haystack. He lived in North Carolina and I lived in Texas (where all my family live). We met right before he was to be shipped off to boot camp for the navy. One week later he went off to bootcamp and we continued to write each other and kept falling more in love until we finally ended up marrying each other barely one year later. Now it has been 1 year and 5 months later and we are still as much in love and happy with each other as we were the first day we met. I did eventually choose to move be with him in Virginia…which I would have never believed I would have done. I just want to thank you. You really gave me the hope to stay positive and look forward to the future. Even now because of your reading I rest assured that when my husband goes out to sea (I married military) he will come back because you said a happy and prosperous marriage and what I told him was if something bad happens to him we would have a happy or prosperous marriage therefore nothing bad will happen therefore he will come back to me =) Thank you for everything! You really have touched my life and brought me continued hope. Virginia

  1. Hi Danielle!

Something you touched on… while it is important to know the various meanings of the Tarot cards and combinations thereof, and to be able to interpret, Tarot is more about Universal Law than anything else. You really have to LIVE the Tarot in accordance with Universal Law, or you will find yourself getting whomped. Tarot has to be done with intregrity.

Carl Jung used Tarot cards as a means to help people tap into their superconsciousness. Truth is that the tool can be used to channel both the Higher Self and the subconscious, depending on the focus.

This is even more apparent here in Houston, TX where psychic fairs have become such a cottage industry… every new age shop and learning center has a psychic fair every month. There is always some new “psychic reader” trying to make a living doing this. Most cannot simply because they are not evolved enough or they don’t have the knowledge… I call them “fluffernutters”. A few have attempted to use tarot sessions as a means to manipulate their clients… they foul the well for themselves and are pushed out. The very few who actually make a living at this are the ones who really “walk their talk”.
