The Power Of Vulnerability

A lot of time and energy is invested in being confident, able to stand on our own and not lean on a relationship to complete us. Knowing who we are, what we want and having the self respect to go after our dreams is a hallmark of our culture. Being strong inside and out is how we want to be. Stories and pictures of strength are all around us. Getting stronger at the gym, stronger at asserting ourselves and the fortitude to get through tough times is the positive side of strength.

The opposite of strength is weakness. A lot of people confuse vulnerability with weakness. A person can be strong enough to pick up a car but too weak to speak the truth. We all know what physical weakness is. What is inner weakness? Inner weakness is the condition of being unable to face fear of any kind in an honest and truthful way, to oneself or to another.

Vulnerability can be confused with weakness. However, vulnerability comes with it’s own measure of strength. Being strong enough to show your vulnerable side, your fear and your uncertainties is a powerful heart opening act of bravery. Being exposed to someone outside yourself is scary. Letting your guard down and allowing someone to see the scared child inside is a tremendous risk. Opening the heart and expressing true vulnerability lets the other person know your authentic self, the parts of you kept hidden and the parts of you susceptible to pain.

This day and time is about letting go of our fears. Letting go of the fear of being vulnerable happens when we shift our perception of what vulnerability is. It is a great power. It is a power of truth and trust. It is a power that allows us to keeps us from hiding behind masks and false identities that say we are invincible.

Vulnerability can not be disguised as anything else. Pretending to be vulnerable to get attention or sympathy is manipulation and control. True vulnerability has no agenda. It does not seek to cause a reaction or response. Vulnerability is the act of being open, honest and real. As the energies accelerate, as untruths will become harder and harder to cover up, we are at a choice point which has to do with being authentic, real and heart centered. True strength allows others to get close. True power does not need to hide behind ego or pride.

True love of self and others strips away anything that is not truth and opens the door to healthy intimacy.

The organization of AA embodies the power of vulnerability when one is asked to stand up before others, speak their truth and show others the vulnerable places inside. Standing and speaking in your truth allows others to support you, share their journey and their wisdom with you.

Vulnerability hides a great treasure. The treasure is true freedom, true sharing and a deeper expression of love.

So, you ask how to find real love? Do you know how to be strong and vulnerable at the same time?

Follow your heart. Love always finds the way.
