Happy Spring!!!

I am always so happy to welcome spring, and with it the longer days, warmer temperatures, fresh smells, bright colours… flowers bright against ground that had been snow covered just weeks before…

We have just passed the Vernal or Spring Equinox…marking a time of renewal and rejuvenation… we are challenged now to let go of the past and look to the future – what seeds will we plant, what do we wish to harvest? Spring is a time of planning, and planting, renewing and refreshing…

The Vernal Equinox, like the autumn equinox and the summer and winter solstices has its own spiritual meaning. Each Equinox is a time of balance, it reminds us to keep our balance as we press forward….But the Vernal Equinox focuses us on rebirth, opening up, attracting fresh new energy into our lives and circumstances.  This date marks the New Year for some cultures and it does indeed mark a time of new beginnings, new opportunities, new growth.

For me, spring is uplifting… I was so happy to hear the birds singing last week… soon the trees will bud and the first spring flowers will colour the landscape.  It is still very cold in this part of the world, hovering around the freezing mark, but we know the long dark days of winter have passed… warmer, brighter days are inevitably ahead.

Spring Cleaning makes it easier for us to take advantage of the fresh energy that is filtering in… a tradition that has value and meaning, not just because it contributes to healthy living, but because it clears the air, gets rid of what is old and stale… We are reminded now to clear our homes – and also to look inward, to clear the cobwebs in our minds…

Take time now to evaluate your goals for the year and perhaps to set new goals… consider your plans, how you can accomplish what you wish, and then get into action, one step at a time. This is what spring is about..
