The Zodiacal New Year, the Solar Year, began with the Spring Equinox on March 20th.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the Vernal Equinox is the time when the Sun crosses the equator from South to North and enters the first house of Aries. It marks the beginning of the new astrological year. (In the Southern Hemisphere, this is the autumn equinox.)
Equinox means “equal days and nights.” The Equinox signals a time of balancing in our life and the Spring Equinox represents fertility and creation. This is a time to review and renew every aspect of your life, a time to assess your progress and to correct the imbalances.
There’s a good reason why so many of us get into some Spring Cleaning at this time of year. The ritual represents the balancing and clearing energy of the equinox… as we clear out the old stuck energy, the dust and the clutter that has accumulated around us, we make space for new opportunities to open up.
By now, I usually have a big spring cleaning project in the works, but after several years of focus on clearing the clutter, I can’t think of what I should do next. So this year I’m having a little trouble connecting with the spring energy… doesn’t help that it still feels and looks like winter outside… it was snowing again today.
Still. although winter is having its last hurrah in this part of the world, there are subtle signs of spring all round… my garden may appear white and frozen, but there is new growth stirring below the surface, ready to sprout on the first warm days. It won’t be long before the daffodils and tulips will be calling me out to clear the winter clutter from the garden and prepare the soil for planting.
In the meantime, I will think about what to plant, work on a few smaller projects – my office really needs a good clearing – and wait for the energy of spring to really begin flowing, to gently inspire some exciting new beginnings and changes.
How are you celebrating the change of season? What spring (or fall) cleaning have you planned? What new beginnings and exciting new adventures are you expecting? Whether you’re looking for a new love, a better job or a good holiday, tackling the Spring Cleaning with joy and enthusiasm can help make it happen.
This is the time of year when the universe encourages you to be bold and creative, to get busy planting the seeds that can produce whatever you want… so think about it, then embrace the energy of spring and get going. Start by clearing a closet or drawer as a way of inviting postive change. I can tell you from experience, that first step has a way of inspiring many more exciting changes.
