2009 is an 11 -2 year and also the Year of the Earth Ox, the 26th year of a 60 year cycle in the Chinese zodiac... Predictions, generally, are quite gloomy. Financial forecasters are predicting a deepening of the global recession and weather forecasters are telling us to prepare for another year of violent storms, with global warming actually creating a cooling effect as the poles melt. The combined effect of these two problems means that many more people could lose their homes and we can probably look forward to crop failures and food shortages and mass evacuations along the coastlines..
On the Up Side, recovery, although slow, gains strength through the year. Nations that have been sworn enemies, will be forced to work together in dealing with the global environmental crisis... and individuals everywhere are tightening their ties to family, simplifying their lifetsyles - and becoming more aware of and responsive to their neighbours' needs.
Earth Ox reminds us to dig in and get to work if we want to prosper. 2009, influenced by Earth Ox should see the beginning of some recovery in global economic conditions - but could also influencea worsening of the environmental challenges in the form of cooling temperatures, dangerous storms, earthquakes and landslides. |

General Trends
Change and Recovery are the two keywords for 2009... we will have to change our ways to produce even slight recovery this year. In fact the first half of the year will see conditions worsening in the global financial community, unemployment rates increasing dramatically, the roller coaster ride in the stock market smooths out only a little. However, we see a lot of "back room" activity in this period, leaders gathering together to share ideas and plans, the first steps towards recovery are tentative at best. There are no easy solutions.
Once we get past the summer, we expect some stabilizing in the financial community, but at the same time, the environmental issues that are at the bottom of our changing weather become more severe, the the extent that there is a subtle sense of panic driving the world's leaders to step up their efforts to slow global warming. Now we see more activity around preparing for the "what if's", more and more people taking a survivalist attitude, responding in fear as the sense of impending disaster builds world-wide.

Another year to invest in the environment. With global warming getting so much attention, we will see any industries associated with the environment gain in value.
Industries and stocks associated with metals, the earth, technology should do well this year, but markets are generally unstable.
A good year to be conservative with spending, to avoid taking any major risks... while we see property markets improving somewhat, the environment, and continued recession in the US drags down any real growth that may be possible
The most significant health issues I believe this year continue to be weather- and water-related. Extreme weather conditions that cause major storms, that leave without electricity or good water... a killing cold in that destorys many crops, earthquakes that rupture gas, sewage and water lines, in some cases permanently....We see water in short supply - many regions without good water for extended periods. Even worse that what we we have seen for the past few years.
Famine, cold, and flooding, may be at the bottom of the the predominant health issues in 2009...with the environment creating challenges in many parts of the world, food supplies are also cut off, crops destroyed....

The Summary
We will each need to dig in and get to work in this 11-2 year. A significant shift is upon us... in the midst of a cycle of tribulation takes us through to 2012...
